Just a reminder: there's a lunar eclipse tonight 9pm-12am EST for those of us from the east coast and South America. I hope I can get a look at it sometime on my way home from dance.
I just got paid and made the mistake of going into the local Barnes & Noble. I was only there to browse, I swear! I selected many books, but managed to retain the willpower not to leave with them. If you've ever gone to a bookstore with me, you will recognize this behavior. I was successfully withstanding the temptation until I decided that I would take a quick peek at the science section.
Oh, I am such a sucker for a nerdy science book. I have nerd written on my forehead in big red letters. Now, my science book preferences tend to go through phases. The last one was linguistics and cognitive neuroscience; the recent phase is the history of mathematical concepts. It all started when I read and enjoyed The History of Pi. I browsed the shelves and what did I find? A book on the history of zero. *salivates* Price was a little high for something that I would plow through quickly but... the history of zero! I fondled the book a little while the little devil on my shoulder came out to talk to me. Something was wrong with this book, and I couldn't quite place it. On the other side of the bookshelf laid the answer: a book on the history of infinity. *cue divine mathematical light* The books were a marriage made in the infinite void. I failed my will save, and I can't say I'm upset about it. Resistance was futile anyway. The book I really want to find, though, is a book on the history of e. I heart e. (I have just left the world of nerddom and entered the world of dorkdom.) My school offers a class in the history of math... I might want to look into that methinks...
So I'm out lunch money for a week, but I have yummy nerd books and that's satisfying enough. I've found it amusing the way all the mathematicians I've read have hated the Romans and made no effort to hide it. Never did forgive them for killing Archimedes and stunting the growth of math throughout the western world.
I HATE YOU, FMA ANIME! I AM BITTER FANGIRL! BITTER, I SAY! I KNOW HOW HARRY POTTER FEELS IN BOOK 5 BECAUSE NOW I AM TALKING LIKE HIM!!! PH34R MY CAPS!! MAY THE EPISODE WRITER WHO CAME UP WITH THAT ENDING DIE A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TERRIBLE PLAGUED (BUBONIC EVEN) DEATH OF DOOM! NO, EVEN BETTER, MAY YOU HAVE INFLICTED UPON YOU YOUR OWN ENDING! SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT!
*CRY*
N.B. I waited a day to post this so it would be more coherent. Spoilers in my future posts, assuming I have the emotional fortitude to write them.
