Xandra has put up scans and a quick translation of the Gouhou Drug extra chapter. (I want my Asukaaaaa!) Although it's only a couple of pages, it opens up a lot of interesting questions. And Saiga is nibbling on Kakei; a further example of the CLAMP neck fetish. *nosebleed*

March 27, 2003

I've been cleaning out my room since I have to move and all. I've been staying at Steve's house since Christmas, and dad hadn't been home... It was (still is) at the point where I was rather afraid of what I might find in there. But I had to go through it if I planned to keep any of it. It's amazing the stuff I found! I found $102 in an envelope marked $102. How odd! I also found a $30 transit check somewhere on my bed (whee hee - another two weeks of 'free' train fare) I found a box of brownie mix... god knows how long that's been there, but it was under so much stuff that nothing could get to it, including me. I found pics of me that were taken by my best friend from probably right at the end of high school. She did my hair in Sailor Moon buns (since my hair is easily long enough) and I was posing stupidly. Reaching deep into the recesses of my memory, I barely recall the incident. I found a lot of stuff from high school -- it was so long ago. I found a book-bound short story my best friend wrote as a fictional account of our trip to France and Spain. It had editing marks all over it (apparently I had been proofreading it.) Chrissy, you're mentioned in it, too. Remember Fred the Tour Guide and his Pink Shirt? I came across the scrapbook too. *Nostalgia* I also want to know what possessed me to write 'Jess *hearts* Steve Vitamin E digestive tract Mega Man' on the side of a random page in my junior year AP Latin notebook.

Bittersweet memories...

Of course, if you look at this another way, I really ought to clean my room once in a while and get over that rather awful habit of being a pack rat who never unpacks.

March 26, 2003

Suspicious Acorns has been updated with pics from Full Moon, Ribon, and Ciao.

Got my paws on Furuba vol 11. ::becomes engrossed by book::

Argh, so much to read, so little time. First she posted some chapters of her fic after a long hiatus, which I am happy about; then there was DV12; Furuba calls to me but yet I am still watching those interesting lectures on the history of the English language; and I've had my nose buried in a book about a theory of the co-evolution of language and the brain, which I've found absolutely fascinating.

And someone wants me to tutor them elementary calculus. Me. *laughs* The situation went something like this:

{Her first basic displacement-velocity-acceleration problem}
Me: "So after the first derivative you get v(t) = 3t^2 - 12t + 9, and after the second, you get a(t) = 6t - 12. At t=4 you just substitute."
Her: "I see! So the answer would be..." (waits for me to do arithmetic to confirm)
Me: "er... um... it's 10? 9? um... it's a number." (starts surreptitiously counting on fingers)
Her: (laughs) "You weren't kidding. It took you 3 seconds to do the manipulation, and now you can't solve it. That's so funny!"
Me: *sweatdrops*

I've got a fairly recent IM transcript that further shows that my brain just doesn't compute basic mathematical processes:

Usa-p (5:33:31 AM): funny stupid story
ok, maybe it's not so funny, or even funny at all, but it sure was stupid
J-Rod (5:33:52 AM): lol
Usa-p (5:33:55 AM): I had to divvy up 99 points of something
so after I was done I did the math [with a calculator mind you] and got 123
Usa-p (5:34:07 AM): so then I added them again and I got 91
Usa-p (5:34:16 AM): so then I added them by hand and got 90
Usa-p (5:34:35 AM): so then I started asking people to add them for me and I'd get either 90 or 91 as an answer
Usa-p (5:34:41 AM): so I added 8 more to make 99
Usa-p (5:34:50 AM): and then I added them up and it came out to 97
Usa-p (5:34:57 AM): and by this point I was weeping
Usa-p (5:34:59 AM): the end.
J-Rod (5:35:13 AM): lol
Usa-p (5:36:14 AM): I want to know how I couldn't do that right on the first/second/third/fourth try

Addition is the bane of my existence.

March 24, 2003

DV chapter 12 was released. Yet again she has managed to give the readers exactly what they want, and make them hate it; give them what they fear, and make them love it; make what has been known to be true, not quite; and despite the dozens of theories discussed and dissected by the readers, manage to write the obvious that we never saw in the most unexpected way, toppling foundations and leaving us to scramble and drown in a raging whirlpool of potent undefinable emotions. I am still reeling. I feel like an old t-shirt that has been tossed into the washing machine of DV to be spun and rinsed and spun again while drowning in the murky waters of emotions only to be drained and squeezed and twisted until all the emotions are wrung from me as I am held out to dry.

In other words, a total rush, as always.

Because I've had fun taking all the friend tests lately, here's mine. How well do you know Usa-p? Steve took it and got 75 *hugs* The big question he messed up was "what color do I always choose when I play board games," and he picked the one that he always chooses instead of the one I always choose ^^;; He was all upset that he didn't get a higher score. March 22, 2003

My dad came over here the other night to store some of his paintings in Steve's basement. He walked in and looked around saying, "This needs to be fixed. That needs to be fixed. He should fix that. Did you know this isn't working? That needs to be fixed too." It was rather amusing. And since he always has the urge to tinker he fixed some of the more major things. We got the doorbell back (no more telling the pizza guy to knock on the window), and he repaired the faulty fire-hazard electrical short in the light in the bedroom so that now once he installs a new fixture on the ceiling there will be light. Light! Can you imagine! I'm all for the dark and all, but the one lamp was getting to be a bit much.

I am no longer the only one in my jazz class. A pal of mine from my tap class joined me so now I won't have to switch classes if I want the extra dance in the recital. (The costume is gorgeous and the dance is fun. I'm glad I don't have to give them up. ^_^)

Q, I sent off your box of boinking boys. I wiped the drool off beforehand.

Seems everyone is enjoying the music videos. If there's anything else you want to see let her know.

I'm just hopping randomly from topic to topic today aren't I?

A couple more random scans uploaded to Suspicious Acorns including a note on why the site has a silly title.

TADAAA! *waves arms and makes overdramatic gestures* I present the official opening of Suspicious Acorns, a gallery of scans co-run by myself and my friend Chrissy. My regular visitors won't find anything new there at the moment (except for three new Furuba scans from the recent Hana to Yume courtesy of Chrissy,) but some of the older scans have been replaced with even larger, cleaner versions. (All of the Furuba; half of the Gouhou Drug. The rest of the books are off in mom's basement at the moment ^^;;) I hope you all enjoy!

The layout didn't give me any trouble to make. That so rarely happens. Perhaps it is a good omen ^_^

March 18, 2003

In my early days of high school, in a moment of inspiration brought on by a new box of markers and winter break, I sat and made a geeky version of monopoly that I could actually get behind. I called it Bacteriopoly. Instead of trying to be rich, the idea was to be the snazziest microbe on the block by out-evolving your opponents. The currency was genes and you could purchase properties such as mitochondria and endoplasmic reticula. Community Chest was The Gene Pool; Chance became Mutations; Jail was Get Attacked by Anti-biotics - do not pass go - do not collect 200 genes. And I done colored it all pretty.

Hmm... that sounds even geekier now that I've typed it.

Apparently, Steve tells me, last night about a half hour after I went to sleep I half sat up and said randomly, "fuzzy snowman." Steve, on the computer and baffled, asked what I was talking about, and I supposedly said that I had been thinking about snowmen. I remember none of this. His explanation is, "You know why? The Animal Crossing! It's like the crack!" Surely I don't play it that much, do I? ^^;;

March 15, 2003

My poor blog's been so neglected lately. *hugs blog* There's a variety of reasons for this. You can mostly blame it on the geek DVDs my mother bought me. I have spent the last several days watching many many many hours of in-depth lectures on the history of the English language, which, while incredibly informative and interesting in their own right, do not really make for good bloggage. (There's at least 12 hours of the lecture series to go, so it will probably consume my soul this coming week as well.)

My friend Chrissy is being kind enough to provide space for a new scans site that she and I have in the works. I have the layout all ready and functioning, there's just the matter that all of my manga is currently boxed up in my mother's basement. Moving sucks. Where am I moving to? Darned if I know. My friend also has the Ultra Maniac OAV up for download, if anyone is interested. It's the newest series by Yoshizumi Wataru (creator of Marmalade Boy) that is running in Ribon. I highly recommend the manga because besides being awfully cute, it's quite funny. (No boy love though; it's plain shoujo) The full TV series should start this year, and I am itching to get my grubby little paws on it.

Ha! The "Spiritualized" lyrics. I have yet to see any two copies of the lyrics that are the same. I would love to get my hands on the lyric book from whatever CD it's on. I remember my friend developed a great fondness for that song and would play both it and Midorikawa's "Hoshi ni Natta Hanabi" (IMHO his best song) together on repeat for hours at a time. The dichotomy broke my brain and it slowly drove me crazy. No, actually, it quickly drove me crazy. The point of no return is when you start singing along (regardless of the fact that you can't figure out what sounds he's making.)

It baffles me the when he's given English lines to say because he's so awful at it. *hearts*

Yes, I am a Midorikawa Hikaru fan.

The local Asahiya bookstore is closing later this month, so I had to transfer my subscriptions to the local Kinokuniya. T_T I am not happy. I preferred Asahiya to Kinokuniya for a variety of reasons. In general, between the two stores, you had pretty good chances to find what you were looking for. You were more likely to find certain magaines in one of the two. Asa carried most of the boy love magazines such as Chara and Bexboy while Kino carried Ciel and Hanaoto. Kino was always fully stocked on tanks from Hana to Yume, Margaret, and Ribon, while Asahiya always seemed to be perpetually out. But Asa had the boy love wall. Kino has no such thing. You can count the number of yaoi books on the Kino shelves on one hand. Kino also makes you pay up front when you special order. Asa let me pay on pick up if I chose. They were also a bit more speedy and reliable when it came to getting the books.

I just liked Asahiya better, and it felt less constricting inside.

On the plus side, everything on the shelf is 30% off until March 20th, so if you're in NY take advantage of it. (If only I could *weeps into wallet*)

*is just grumpy because since she can't pay on pick up she just had to shell out a painful lump sum for renewing her subscriptions*

*is amused* I was studying some Japanese last night, when one of the units was introduced thus:

"In this unit you will learn how to suffer in Japanese and how to be made to suffer, through the use of the passive and causative passive forms of verbs."

Here we go - March Asuka (late) - with the much awaited for lick pic. This picture needs no more words as 'lick pic' says it all. Bigger scan than normal, because I promised. It's 400-some-odd K. If it's still not big enough for your tastes, it's only about 1/2 the size of the original so just let me know and something can be arranged. That holds for all my scans, actually.

The Asuka came with a free collectible card, which just happened to be one of my favorite recent pics of Kamui - Kamui in the tub or, perhaps it should be dubbed Afterglow!Kamui. Mmmm nothing like some wet sexy Kamui, except perhaps for some wet sexy naked bloody bondage Kamui, but hey, you take what you can get.

I scanned a bunch of the X color pics from around the Asuka as well, because I just couldn't help myself.

Pretty Kamui and Subaru pics from ads in the back.
Pretty Kamui cover.
Fuuma swathed in red.
Fuuma imposing on Kamui while Kamui holds the phallic shinken.

Enjoy.

I just watched several Saiyuki episodes in a row, and the subtext is becoming so blatent that it almost doesn't qualify as subtext anymore (am speaking specifically of 15-16, the 'how they met' episodes, which I just finished.) Hakkai is my chara of choice, and the Gojyo x Hakkai pairing by extension. It might just be me, but... does anyone else feel that Gojyo's hair is not only not red and not blood-colored but rather a delicate shade of mauve? This has led me to believe that the Saiyuki characters are all color blind and can't see red correctly. In some pics Gojyo's hair isn't even mauve, it's downright magenta.

/end color rant

I've been a bit scatterbrained for a while, so I haven't been posting as much. I'm terribly behind on social bloggage ^^;;.

In the interim, I've been watching a lot of downloaded anime so I can clear space off the hard drive (which is perpetually full.) And in anticipation of volume 11, I've been immersing myself in the Furuba manga, going over it with a fine-toothed comb (or at least the best I can do given the language barriers.)

Len-chan, I'm not sure, but I think Nekoi did the art for Card Captor Sakura. Among other things, it lacks the heavy inking and detailing characteristic of Mokona. (For kicks, take a look at this winamp skin.)

I love Card Captor Sakura. Cute, funny, and easy to read ^_~. Touya & Yukito are sweet, Kero-chan is amusing, Tomoyo is precious, and Shaoran-kun is so adorable I want one of my very own to huggle into teeny tiny pieces. Ah, it makes me want to resurrect my Yue layout even though I love it so much that last time I didn't take it down for the better part of a year.

I'm going to the bookstore on Monday, which means that I will finally get my Asuka and can scan the Gouhou Drug pic featuring the lickage. I promise a scan of epic proportions in case anyone gets layout inspired.
