Doesn't Sei-chan look all evil and suave?
The original sadistic fondler of young bishounen uke boys.
Fuuma has that title now Hehe... his trenchcoat is blowing...
Subaru-kun should be blowing other things... *cough* Stop waving that sword around, Kamui,
or someone's going to lose an eye... This is a blob.
He is googly, squishy, and cute.
He is also useless and green.

How do I find these places?

Amusing little game that tells you what your name would be if you were a Cyborg. Even puts it on a nifty little graphic too. What kind of cyborg acronym does your name make?

I couldn't decide which I was, so here are all three ways of referring to me. I'm rather partial to the 'JESS' one, but the oxymoron for the 'USA-P' one fits me quite well too. *snicker* This is fun.

J.E.S.S.I.C.A. = Journeying Electronic Soldier Skilled in Infiltration and Ceaseless Assassination
J.E.S.S. = Judge Engineered for Scientific Sabotage
U.S.A.-P. = Unit Skilled in Assassination and Peacekeeping

I picked up several mangazines earlier this week.

Asuka, which had part of the touching Karen/Nataku scene (my only consolation is that CLAMP can't exactly follow the painful lines of the anime with their current setups. If they end it any way remotely similar, I may just self-destruct). The cover is a really beautiful picture of Kotori, but perhaps a non-dead character should get the cover? Sigh. It's too pretty to complain.

Ribon, which I haven't really looked through yet, cept Max Lovely is increasingly tugging with fervor at my fangirl strings and no one else seems to be a fan. New series by Atashi wa Bambi artist, Maki Youko. We'll see what that holds, despite it's incredibly stupid name "Aishiteru ze, Baby." (If you know even a little Japanese, you'll see why that made me spit out my drink.) But then, Atashi wa Bambi was a stupid name too, considering I STILL don't know what it was supposed to symbolize in the story.

Picked up an issue of Nakayoshi. I don't usually get Nakayoshi since there hasn't been anything running in it that I'm really [or even more than remotely] interested in. This magazine used to run Sailor Moon, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Card Captor Sakura. I would have loved to get my hands on it back then. But Sailor Moon creator Takeuchi Naoko is back with a new longer running series, Love Witch. I figured I'd pick up the first chapter just to see. Her art has improved tremendously [I'd've hoped so, it's been several years since her last work] and it's incredibly cute. I think I'm really going to like it. Too bad I'll have to wait for the tankouban because I'm not picking up Nakayoshi just for this. [Voice in head says: "you get Asuka just for X..." I reply: "But it runs DNAngel too, and other bishie goodness! Nakayoshi's other series don't interest me at ALL"]

I also picked up an issue of LaLa, to see what was in it and what level it was. I can't really picture read these, excessive dialogue and narrative, but it runs a lot of series that have piqued my interest from other channels. Things like Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou, Kanata Kara, and Kaguya-hime. This, like the other mag from this publisher, Hana to Yume, seems like it would be one I would get on a regular basis if I was fluent in the language. Really good stories, though I'm not fond of the art.

I can't wait for my CLAMP Tenmabouka RG Veda artbook to arrive. *snee* Purty purty.

WAAAAAH! ::weeps profusely, then weeps some more::

They can't DO that! That's... that's... UGH!
The X anime. Plot holes. Big giant horrendous dreamscape sized plot holes! And besides plot holes, xxxxxxx's death! (Ok, so expecting anyone to not die in X is incredibly naive, but JEEZ...)

For a while the anime was teetering with it's good points and bad points, some big, some minor, but at least it was still fairly interesting to watch. But after ep. 16, which was the best of all, the scriptwriters got kicked to the head by crack-laden horses and reverted to drunken monkeys. Oh, I'm sorry, that's an insult to the monkeys. Grrrrr.

I don't want to see the end of the series. I do not wish to see these events unfold before my sensitive eyes. Needless to say, of COURSE I'm going to watch it, but I don't WANT to. It's just that I HAVE to.

See, kids, this is why Drugs are bad! You shouldn't do drugs! because then you make atrocities like the end of the X anime which is only marginally better than the movie in the fact that at least Fuuma got a chance to show his neck-nibble-fetish that one time.

But you know... I have been so disillusioned by these turns of events that a little part of me just screamed out "the movie ending was better!" and I had to quash it for such blasphemy must not be allowed to surface. No, the movie ending was NOT better... but the thought DID cross my mind. *sobsobsob*

Whoo hoo picking up my Asuka & Ribon tomorrow. It's been so LONG. I don't much like getting them at the same time. Getting one every two weeks was better.

CLAMP is on the crack again. 14 pages for May's issue. When was the last time we got enough pages to actually tell a paragraph's worth of story? At this rate volume 18 will never come out and X will run for another 10 years. As pretty as X is, I'd like it to be complete before I'm 30. I can only tolerate angst for so long. However if after the end of the world Subaru and Kamui were still alive and functioning, I would gladly do with eternal chicken feed installments just for the Subaru X Kamui eye candy. But other than that X has got to get a move on.

Now for some non SxK ramblings (yes, there is such a thing). I am very pleasantly surprised at how much I am coming to really adore Karen-san. Such a beautiful, strong, and lovingly kind woman. She would be a wonderful mother (as I'm sure is the point they're making). ::smacks Aoki-san around a bit:: Sigh. Only in CLAMP's evil sadistic worlds would such a woman be caused to lament that all the good men are either taken or gay. ::smacks Aoki-san around again::

I stumbled across these on a page of listed Tachibana works:

Yasashii Kakumei, by Kazumi Maki: Chara ISBN 4-19-900030-5
Ijippari Trouble, by Kazumi Maki: Chara ISBN 4-19-900059-3
Renai Ruletto, by Kousaka Yuki: Chara ISBN 4-19-900105-0

Obviously, it seems she is just the illustrator, and that's why I've never seen these come up on searches for her stuff. I can't tell if she just did the covers, or if she illustrates the whole tankouban. In the past few Chara Selections there was a story where she was just the artist, and not the writer.

If she illustrated the whole thing, I'll want to pick them up. Tachibana Kaimu rules muchly.

I uploaded a page to Viola Tricolor about why this site is called Disorderly Coconuts, as well as why Viola Tricolor has its name. I also added a link to it on the sidebar, since everyone's first reaction to this blog is, "Disorderly Coconuts...? Why 'Disorderly Coconuts'?" Why indeed. ^_^ You're probably better off not knowing.

Mother Nature has also decided that now that it is spring, we should have some freezing temperatures and some snow. Nature, darling, I love you dearly, but you're on crack.

A dear pal of mine who wishes to remain anonymous ::coughjessytheotherpoofyonecough:: told me a story today. She said that while riding in a car staring thoughtfully out the window, they passed by a big dirt pile. And what should slip straight from her brain to her mouth during her reverie but, "I am a dung beetle - this is my pile!" Which, now thanks to me, she shall never live down.

Repeat after me in a booming voice: I AM A DUNG BEETLE - THIS IS MY PILE!

N.B. "Disorderly Coconuts" is all her fault ^_^

Of course, in true March fashion, the minute I comment about how abnormally warm it's been here all winter, it decides to pour outside and drop the temperature down to the 30s. What irony. We were planning on going ice skating tomorrow too, before it rained. To think the ice would even have been frozen this time.

It also never ceases to make me giggle that CLAMP calls Lantis Lan-chan all over the artbook. *snicker* Lantis is just not someone who you can call -chan.
Ok, so I'm easily amused.

March 19, 2002

I happened to hear on the radio just now that this has been the warmest winter in the northeast on record. I can believe that. There were maybe 3 or 4 days total where it was slightly uncomfortably chilly. We had that little bitty flurry, and that was it. Kelly and I were going ice skating and people were wearing tank tops. This is abnormal. Now, I don't like to freeze anymore than anyone else does, but JEEZ, this is NY, this is winter, or it seems that has been forgotten. 'No such thing as global warming' my rear end! I had to go up to Massachusetts to play in the snow this year, and even there I was literally ROLLING around in the snow, swinging on the swings, sliding down snow covered slides, not once did I get cold even without gloves or a scarf, and I managed to dry off on the walk back. It's WEIRD.

The only good thing about a warm winter around here means that we'll likely have a cool summer. I've noticed over the past several years that the colder the winter is, the hotter the summer. I dislike hot summers more than cold winters. You can always find more blankets to cuddle under, but you can only get so naked when you're too hot.

I really really really hate those javascript scrollbar things. They are employed often on the more graphically intense sites that I go to. Unfamiliar with the annoying java-scroll-things? Imagine a nice fancy layout with an inline frame where the inclusion of a normal (skinned or otherwise) type scrollbar simply would not do to keep the page looking pretty. So what can be done? Turn off the regular scrollbars, and instead put in a script where if you hover the mouse pointer over, say, Subaru's defunct eye, the page will scroll down, and if you hover it over his working eye, the page will scroll up.

But you might be saying, "Hey, that actually sounds kind of neat! What's so wrong with it?" Really, it isn't so much the concept as the implementation. See, if you use the javascript scrollbars, you can't scroll the page ANY other way. Not by selecting text, not with the little round wheel on those mice with the little round scrolling wheels, not anything, so if it doesn't load correctly [which is usually the case, especially with tempermental browsers] you're stuck. Also, it scrolls at a preset speed which is always 'painfully slow'.

But despite even those things, there is another that irks me even more. Every so often you won't be told where the hot spots for scrolling are. Some people are nice, they'll have a little "up" or "down" written, or at least a "u" and a "d", or arrows or something. But occasionally the designer wants you to play "find the hotspot." I hate "find the hotspot." The pages are set to scroll when the mouse hovers, not clicks, so I'm moving the pointer around trying to figure out how to scroll, or even if I can do so, because was that thought really supposed to end mid-sentence? So I push the mouse around and all of a sudden the page moves, and after more located searching I find that the third star from the right makes the page scroll down and to scroll back up you've got to point to Kamui's bellybutton.

Oh! That reminds me of another thing that ruffles my feathers. What are the point of thumbnails that only show you a zoomed in area? I can't tell if I've seen the picture, I can't tell if I want to see the picture because the thumbnail is even less helpful than a text link if I can't figure out what it is! You can make thumbnails all the same size and shape while still including the indentifying parts of a picture.

Sigh. It's one thing to be artistic, and another to be artistic and practical. Ok, rant mode off now.

I FINALLY got my hands on Komisch volume 3, the Holy Grail of manga. I was beginning to think it didn't exist. So many copies of 1, 2, 4 & 5; it was just unnatural to have no 3s lying around. Speaking of manga that doesn't exist, according to both Yahoo Japan AND Amazon Japan this random volume I'm holding in my hand is only a mirage. Can it really be a figment of my imagination if I'm holding it in my hands... it's solid, really it is! The book in question is a shounen ai piece called 'My Precious' by Odagiri Hotaru published by Tosuisha under the IchiSuki label, ISBN: 4-88741-085-9. It was published in 1997 so I'm just baffled as to why neither of the big be-all and end-all sites mention it. It doesn't matter, it's just odd.

March 17, 2002

So I popped on over to CLAMP's website to check release dates. Mangazines usually arrive in my local Asahiya & Kinokuniya about 3 weeks after they're released in Japan; tanks seem to take a little longer. The April Asuka comes out this coming Saturday, which means that I should be getting the previous issue sometime this week. Yay for a month late ^_^

My main reason for visiting is that I know the 4th X Compilation has come out rather recently and I want to plug an approximate date into my calendar. The less visits I make to the bookstores, the less food money I risk spending.

What did I discover while combing through the site? CLAMP gets the cover for the April and July Asuka issues, plus they get the first color page on every issue between then and now. Gouhou Drug will be in the June and July issues [which I pleasantly raved about when I first heard], and Chobits 5 is coming out in the beginning of April. I believe they're also getting the cover of Newtype one of those months and the Chobits anime starts this April. AAAAAH CLAMP overdose!

Let's add this to everything else high on the list of things my hobby demands of me:
Data 6 by Tachibana Kaimu just came out. It's about TIME.
Full Moon wo Sagashite anime also starts in April.
I still haven't been able to find the two volumes of Atashi wa Bambi. I own it in mangazine form, but Kino & Asa, I WANT MY TANKS ALREADY! Don't make me have to order them.

I think maybe Steve's right. I need an English hobby. I guess the Harry Potter fandom doesn't count.

There's a Subaru and Kamui phone card set out in Japan. This is the second official picture with just the two of them and lookit them all tangled in those red threads [symbolic] and crawling around there on the floor. *snee* Oh my imagination is running wild. Lookit pic!

Eek... I just realized! This new pic of Subaru & Kamui... Subaru-kun has TWO EYES! Can anyone tell what color they are!? AAH! Is this pic pre or post eye in a jar!?

And when is Subaru gonna get on the cover of the compilation volumes? Not that I mind the pretty Kamui on #4, but why isn't Subaru on there. Kotori got a cover...

Hades has frozen over because my period is on time to the DAY. Blegh. I can learn to hate the nights of no moon. *grumblegrumblepaingrumblepain* I have a strange desire to go out and hunt a cow. When I get my hand out of this bag of chocolate I may do just that. Or I might just go to the butcher if it's not too late by the time I finish this post.

I finally got around to reading the online daily funny comic Boy Meets Boy. [I *heart* Skids] I'm annoyed it took me so long. This is yet another example of me kicking myself about taking my dear sweet time when it comes to checking out things I've heard of that I might like.

Blogger was down for a bit due to maintenance. Bad timing since I came across some strange information I wanted to rant about. The server that hosts my non-AOL e-mail was being funky and uncooperative too.

In the meantime while poking around catching up on news on other blogs, I came across someone giving brief summaries of the most recent X episodes [19-21] in limited English. Episode 20 began with something along the lines of Aoki getting a divorce. I did a TRIPLE take and spluttered a bit to make sure I was reading that right. Apparently he was getting a temporary divorce until the whole end of the world thing blows over, after which he'll remarry his wife.

Pause while that sinks in.

Now tell me, what kind of twisted logic is THAT? That doesn't make any SENSE, and lord knows Aoki-san is one sensible guy. It does prime for a little Aoki x Karen shipping to take place, but it's such a left field plot device that even though I'd love to see some of that shipping... argh it just cheapens it. I'm dying to see the episode and find out for myself if this is really what happens. So far I only have X through episode 16.

Sigh. A divorce is one thing, but a temporary divorce? What's the point in that? ::mumblegrumble::

March 10, 2002

I rewatched ALL of Trigun again yesterday. It was awesome the first time and it has now passed the WMV test, or the "Withstands Multiple Viewings" test. It was just as cool, even cooler this second time around. Vash is cool. Wolfwood is cool. I'd love to slash them with their infinite chemistry if they weren't the poor emotionally tortured, sad, suffering, and eternally anguished boys that they are. To paraphrase what Wolfwood said to Vash, they're so full of pain it hurts to look at them. I've gotta get Steve to watch this. And I want Vash and Wolfwood action figures because they look mad cool.

I haven't been posting lately not due to lack of things to say, just lack of incentive to bother to say them. My mangazines aren't due again for another month, all my favorite fanfics are between chapters, and I just haven't felt like ranting excessively about X as much as I usually do. Conversation on the mls is at a low volume, probably due to various spring breaks either in session or coming up.

Although my art muse is still hanging around, refusing to give way to my writing muse which annoys me greatly. I decided to try making wallpapers since the last thing I needed was yet ANOTHER layout that I wouldn't have use for. I made two so far, X related of course, for now at least. I'll post them after I do a few more. Now I shall depart and watch last week's Buffy. Schnoogles!

I scanned relevant pics of Munakata Seiya (aka Yet-Another-Kunitame) from Tachibana Kaimu's Komisch Vol. 4 because he is a dead ringer for my D&D character Soron. The right build, the right hairstyle, the right eyes, and even the exact right scar to boot. In fact, all he's missing are ears reminiscent of a half-elf.

This is the scene that made me stop and go, "That's him!" He gets to be all nekkid and in the shower too ^_^ [I've got a thing for sopping wet bishounen] *snee*

Tee Hee! Undressing! - Aww he's so CUTE. This is a perfect Soron expression. - This is the shower scene. Drool with me.

Do we need to wonder why I love this artist so much? It's like she read my mind. If her manga and doujinshi are indicative of anything it shows that we have similar tastes and a similar sense of light-hearted humor.

I had been thinking about what my D&D character Kuni Hamako would look like if I drew her. I had a pretty solid picture in my head, but not quite as much as with Soron or Ghayth for the simple reason that I wasn't quite sure how big her weapon was. Hamako is only 4'9 which makes her quite the tiny thing, even though she's tough and quite strong. I wanted to give her a really really really big sword since she wasn't allowed to have a katana due to not being a samurai. Looking through the handbook I saw a naginata which is a reach polearm often employed by women. I decided against it however when I realized I couldn't swipe at opponents within 5 feet. The next biggest thing was a nagamaki, which looked like a huge katana. I'd never heard of it before [not like I'd heard of a naginata either, but at least other people have. No one's heard of the nagamaki] According to the research that I've just done, it's related to the naginata in that it's long and is considered a polearm, but it is katana-like in its construction and the way it is wielded.

So what does Hamako look like? Imagine Sailor Saturn with her glaive. That's the general idea [although not personality wise]. I didn't have her in mind when I envisioned Hamako, but it occurred to me afterwards that that's who she reminded me of. Hamako's nagamaki, however, is larger proportionally than Saturn's glaive is to her. Hamako is 4'9" and the nagamaki is 7'-8' [3'-4' of handle and 3'-4' of blade] Quite frankly I don't know how she carries that thing around with her. It's practically twice her size.

Incidentally Soron looks JUST like Munakata Seiya/Yet-Another-Kunitame from the Komisch manga right down to the huge diagonal scar across the chest. It really was freaky because I had been playing Soron long before I ever saw this character. As I was going through the manga I did a double take and then went to show the whole group, "Look look! It's Soron! Right down to the scar!" See, now I'll have to scan it.

Blegh. I've got to be coming down with something. Something strange since my immune system isn't picking up on it, at least, not that I can feel. My glands aren't swollen and I don't feel any nasty bugs growing but... I'm SO tired. Constantly. I've been sleeping all day AND night this weekend. I'm tired now and it's 7:30. I haven't even been up 10 hours! I'm afraid to nap now; I can only imagine what that will do to my already precarious sleep schedule. That and I'm achey, crampy [and it's the full moon which gives me about another week or so for the real cramps], food is tasting strange, and I'm thirsty beyond ALL belief. I just keep drinking water and it doesn't seem to be helping. Perhaps this means I have to vary my diet for a little bit. It's the only explanation if I'm not sick. Jeez. If my body wanted other nutrients it could have just said so the way it usually does and not done it the hard way.

So, I've been watching the X TV series through ep 9 so far. I'll rant on that when I'm done and when I'm not feeling narcoleptic. And yes I will eventually get into why Kamui is uke to Subaru and not the other way around. Same conditions of alertness apply.

It has, of late, become increasingly important that I get my monthly 'hit' of CLAMP. This is unsurprising because they, being the crack-whores that they are, are quite skilled at pushing their drugs among the willing hordes of fangirls. First they give us plenty, feeding the addiction. Then they start to pull back a bit, increasing the hunger. The birdseed amounts of X they have been providing lately scarcely count as being sufficient for hors de'oeuvres, and just as you think you may be getting used to the limited intake and decide you're ready to battle the ugly face of withdrawal, they beckon you back with double the dosage.

You see, Gouhou Drug [Lawful Drug, and I won't even get into how appropriate that manga is for this analogy] will be returing to serialization in, of all places, Asuka magazine which is already housing X. That's TWO CLAMP series in ONE magazine. I swear they're trying to kill us; squealing in delight as they watch us get high and happily hemorrhage from lust-driven nosebleeds. Not that I mind, of course... at least a CLAMP overdose is satisfying in its never-ending satisfaction. I will be commissioning people to clear my body off the road in the event that I instantaneously drop dead upon receiving the June issue of Asuka. Good luck to the happy survivors.
